1. Scope and contact
This policy applies to RankDeterminant's website, learner accounts, lessons and practice, the tutor, daily tests, Sunday mocks, leaderboards, rank projections and support communications.
RankDeterminant is an individually operated educational service based in Delhi, India. Privacy requests may be sent to admin@rankdeterminant.com.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: the email address or mobile number you sign up with; your password, which is held by our sign-in provider in hashed form (we never see it); sign-in identifiers, account status, and when you agreed to our terms. If you choose to add them later, your name and class.
- Learning activity: concepts and chapters opened, practice answers you mark, progress, mastery, your target exam and study-plan choices, and rank-projection inputs and outputs.
- Tests: your answers, scores, time taken and rank in daily tests and Sunday mocks.
- Tutor usage: how many tutor questions you have asked this week, so the allowance of 20 a week can be applied. We do not store the text of your tutor conversations (see section 4). To stop one person using many accounts to drain the tutor, we also count each day's tutor questions from each network, using the same coded network address described under problem reports below.
- Problem reports: the question you reported, the reason and any details you write, linked to your account when you are signed in. To limit misuse we also keep a coded form of your network address, made with a secret key and changed every day, which cannot be turned back into the address.
- Security and service data: session, device and browser, and limited request information needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.
- Support information: messages and documents you choose to send.
3. Why we use information
- create and secure your account;
- deliver lessons, practice, tests and the other features of your account;
- run daily tests and Sunday mocks, mark them, and show results and leaderboards;
- save progress and produce mastery and projected-rank guidance;
- answer your tutor questions and apply the weekly question allowance;
- check and correct questions that students report;
- prevent misuse, such as one person using many accounts;
- answer support and legal requests;
- maintain, diagnose and improve reliability and security; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or use anyone's information for behavioural advertising.
4. The tutor
When you ask the tutor a question, your question, the recent conversation in that panel, the lesson you are reading, and a short summary of your progress (such as concepts completed, accuracy by chapter and your target exam) are sent to our provider Anthropic, PBC, which writes the answer. We do not send your name, email address or mobile number. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its service is not used to train its models; Anthropic's own privacy policy describes how long it keeps such data.
We do not store your tutor conversations on our servers. They stay in your browser tab and disappear when you leave the page. We keep only counts of questions asked, to apply the allowance of 20 questions a week and the daily limits that keep the tutor running for everyone. The tutor can make mistakes, so check important answers against the worked solutions.
5. Tests and the leaderboard
Daily tests and Sunday mocks are marked on our servers. Your answers, score, time and rank are kept with your account and used for your results, your past papers and your projected rank.
The daily-test leaderboard, including the top 10 on our home page, is public. It shows only each student's rank, score and time taken, never names or other details. Signed-in students see their own position marked as theirs.
7. Security and retention
We use access controls, server-side marking, hashed passwords and restricted administrative access. No system is completely secure, so keep your password private and tell us about suspected misuse.
Account, learning and test information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterward. Problem reports are kept with your account information. Support records may be retained longer where needed for fraud prevention, dispute handling or legal obligations. Records of any earlier purchases are kept for as long as the law requires. Information is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer reasonably required.
8. Your rights and requests
You, or a parent or guardian for a student under 18, may ask for a summary of the personal information we hold, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of the account, or withdrawal of consent, and may raise a grievance. Email us from the account email address, or from the parent or guardian address we have on file, so we can verify the request. If your account uses a mobile number, write to admin@rankdeterminant.com with your mobile number; we will check the account is yours before making any change. We may keep information that the law requires us to keep.
Your account cannot work without the information needed to provide it. Browser storage used for sign-in and learning progress can be cleared in your browser, but server records linked to an account need a deletion request.
9. Learners under 18
RankDeterminant is used by school students, many of them under 18. We collect only the information needed to run the course and tests, we do not publish students' names, and we do not use children's information for advertising, profiling for advertising, or tracking across other websites.
- A student under 18 should use RankDeterminant with the knowledge and agreement of a parent or guardian.
- A parent or guardian can write to us from their own email address to review, correct or delete their child's information, or to close the account; we will check the account is their child's before making any change.
- India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires a parent's verifiable consent for a child's personal data. We are preparing a parent or guardian confirmation step as its rules come into force, and will update this policy when it starts.
10. Privacy grievance contact
Email admin@rankdeterminant.com with the subject “Privacy grievance”. State the email address or mobile number you log in with, the request and enough detail for us to investigate. We will acknowledge the request and explain the outcome or next step.
This policy may change as the service and applicable law develop. The effective date above identifies the current version, and we will tell account holders about significant changes.
